The Financial Services Volunteer Corps (FSVC) is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our program in Somalia. FSVC’s work in Somalia concentrates on developing the anti-money laundering/combatting the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) systems of the Central Bank of Somalia and the Financial Reporting Center, as well as developing the capacity of money transfer operators to build the foundation for more robust AML/CFT programs in Somalia. Among others, the Program Associate will be responsible for supporting the program’s management and staff, including helping to coordinate program activities, coordinating with security officers, supporting program delivery, logistics, implementation and reporting. As a member of the Somali team, the Program Associate will work very closely with our regional field staff, and the experts FSVC will recruit, to ensure the successful coordination of FSVC’s program. This position is based in Mogadishu, Somalia, and may involve some travel to Nairobi.

Founded in 1990, FSVC is a not-for-profit, private-public partnership that helps to build sound financial systems in transition and emerging market countries. To do so, FSVC provides the highest quality technical assistance to transition and emerging market countries, by recruiting senior financial experts to serve on missions. The premise of FSVC’s work is that sound financial infrastructure is essential to support private entrepreneurship, promote job creation, mobilize domestic savings, attract foreign investment and create conditions that promote lasting economic opportunity. FSVC’s core work concentrates on developing central bank capabilities, strengthening commercial banking systems and building capital markets. FSVC has field offices in Albania, Egypt, Jordan, Kenya, Somalia and Tunisia.

The Program Associate will:

  • Assist and support FSVC programs in-country, including the coordination with counterparts, other technical assistance donors and implementers;
  • Serve as key in-country point person, coordinating FSVC communications with security providers and security officer;
  • Complete required program reporting (e.g., quarterly reports to donors, monthly office ledgers);

  • Liaise closely with FSVC staff to support program development and project management;

  • Coordinate and arrange for logistics on the ground, including travel, transport and accommodation;

  • Provide translation and interpretation support, as required;

  • Support the day-to-day operations of FSVC’s team in-country;

  • Maintain office supplies and equipment;

  • Compile payment records and expense reports according to FSVC-New York requirements;

  • Maintain databases, including client contact information;

  • Maintain all office files in an orderly and logical manner; and

  • Other duties as they may be assigned.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Degree in finance/economics or other related field;
  • Three to five years of experience in working in an office environment;
  • Understanding of, and interest in, financial sector issues;
  • If possible, experience supporting the delivery of international technical assistance programs;
  • Excellent English and Somali speaking and writing skills;
  • Excellent organizational and reporting skills; and
  • Ability to work independently and proactively.
