1.0 Background
Since 2003 Somali Community Concern (SCC) has been operating in South/Central Somalia with life-saving and developmental programs and services reaching over 30,000 IDP Children, 140,000 IDP and 120,000 vulnerable elderly men and youths. Currently, SCC implements programs in Education, WASH and Protection (Gender-based Violence) prevention and response.
From emergency response through post-conflict development work, in a great variety of roles in the situation of Somalia, Somali Community Concern is a hope and humanity for many Somali vulnerable citizens. 2.0 SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The WASH Project Coordinator will directly manage the implementation of a comprehensive WASH project in Banadir and Lower Shabelle regions in Somalia that will be including the supervision of field staff, monitoring of field activities, budget monitoring, and close coordination with other actors in the target areas and population. SCC is looking for a highly motivated and respected individual with significant WASH –related experience working with communities and local administration, particularly in Banadir and Lower Shabelle regions.
3.0 SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Planning & implementation of WASH project activities in Banadir and lower Shabelle regions.
- Active supervision of project staff with frequent visits to the field and participation in programmatic activities;
- Effective and regular coordination with local actors, UNICEF, authorities and communities in Afgoye and Mogadishu
- Ensuring project activities meet relevant Somali project standards;
- Regular internal and external reporting;
4.0 Key Deliverables
- Training on Community committee in management, operation and maintained of the improved water source.
- Train hygiene promoters from the target communities.
- Support desludging of 4500 overflowing latrines.
- Establish 3 Child to child clubs and train promoting safe hygiene behaviors.
- Train 18 teachers and CEC officials on hygiene/sanitation leadership in behavior change.
- Rehabilitation and upgrading 10 Shallow wells,
- Installations of 2 solar powered pumps to wells,
- Extension of water supply systems to 5 institutions,
- Construction of 1 dump site for liquid facility,
- Construction of 5 blocks of communal latrines
- Construction of 10 twin latrines in 10 institutions.
- Technical reports submitted to SCC.
5.0 REQUIRED QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
- A Degree in WASH related disciplines with significant experience in the INGO/UN working environment.
- Excellent administrative and communication skills, highly organized, reliable and responsible person able to analyze complex contexts,
- Proven team leading and managerial experience;
- Demonstrated technical and logistical understanding of water related infrastructure construction and hygiene and sanitation promotion activities;
- At least 3-5 years of experience in similar position/related
- Professional experience in community WASH programs
- Excellent program implementation skills,
- Good communication skills.
- Fluency in spoken and written English
