Our client’s Kenya Operational Hub (KEOH) has over twenty years of experience working in East Africa, including large scale infrastructure projects. With a flexible and responsive presence throughout the region, our client is able to scale up rapidly, through various mechanisms into high risk areas which have proven to be beneficial to partners.
KEOH has its own Physical Infrastructure Unit (PIU) which consists of design production office and engineering project management cell, consisting of civil, structural, M&E engineers, architects, design draftsmen and quantity surveyors. This team is supported by its own in-house procurement specialists and logistics support group who perform the tendering and admin support for all projects undertaken by the PIU. The PIU is providing design and implementation support via its team of site engineers based in Kenya, Burundi, Seychelles and throughout Somalia. All design drawings, specifications bills of quantity and tender documentation are prepared in-house to ensure the highest quality, standards and contractual transparency.
KEOH-PIU offers services that are complimentary to the front end of any physical infrastructure project including, feasibility studies, construction assessments, developing standard systems and manuals for infrastructure development with local government counterparts, detailed construction design and documentation with BOQ’s and specification. It offers complete turnkey solutions to serve its clients’ needs.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
Under the overall guidance of the PIU Manager and the direct supervision of the PIU Construction Supervisor, the Laboratory Technician will give his / her technical expertise as required to supervise and manage the construction works for the project and the he/she has been assigned to and to make sure the works are being implemented as per the laid down contract terms and conditions.
Specifically the incumbent will be responsible for the following substantive tasks; this list is not representative of all the duties required but indicates typical duties and responsibilities;
· Supervise the construction of all the works on site as referenced in the conditions of contact and maintains the necessary and appropriate means in monitoring progress of works according to contract schedule, specifications and project plans.
· Check out quality of the works (earthworks, pavement layer, concrete, drainage, etc) and ensure that the work is executed as per the technical specification and construction drawings
· Carry out all laboratory designs and seeking approval from the Construction Supervisor before implementation at site.
· Liaise with Construction Supervisor on any of the approval submissions and results.
· Provide feedback of any details from site for incorporation into as built records.
· Any other duties assigned from time to time by the Project Manager
· Actively engage in knowledge sharing and also improve one’s professional skills
Monitoring and Progress Controls
· Ensure the construction works are being carried out within the stipulated time, cost and quality standrads
· Prepare appropriate reports as required
· Ensure team effort is provided for Client submissions for timely delivery and within allocated budget
Final Product
· Accurate implementation of the site works are to be of good quality by observing all appropriate/relevant standards and humanitarian guidelines if relevant.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
Education
· BSc in Civil Engineering from a reputable learning institution. Technical experience in Civil Engineering with 4 years of experience may substitute for the requirement of bachelor’s degree.
Work Experience
· Skills in MS Office Packages are required
· At least 2-4 years of relevant experience
· Previous experience in developing countries and knowledge in the country context related field.
· Candidates with experience working with the humanitarian / development agencies will be well regarded.
· Candidates with experience working on international / local projects in conflicts / disaster prone areas will be preferred.
· Experience in contracting and / or consulting environment is also an advantage
