Under the overall supervision of the Officer in Charge (O.I.C.) FAO Somalia and of the Project Manager/ CTA and the direct supervision of the Publications & Design Officer, the editor will:

• Copy edit (spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax) of FSNAU reports to improve readability and provide recommendations for improving presentation of information following FAO writing style.

• Rewrite some sections of the provided reports when necessary, to achieve target number of words allocated for the articles and to attain clear messages to the target audience and confer with authors regarding changes in content, style or organization.

• Allocate print space for story text, photos, and illustrations according to space parameters and copy significance, using knowledge of layout principles.

• Verify consistency of facts, dates, and statistics, included in the various sections of the FSNAU reports and of the index items

• Review and approve proofs submitted by layout designers prior to publication production and release.

• Meet frequently with artists, typesetters, layout personnel, and technical managers and production team to discuss publishing projects and resolve problems.

• Arrange for translation of various publications and communication material into Somali and other languages as may be required.

• Submit the corrected pieces to the FSNAU for any feedback on the accuracy of revisions and for final approval.

• Advise on improvements in terms of structure, design and layout of the publications in close consultation with Publications Officer, Technical Managers and the CTA

• Provide editorial/ report writing trainings to FSNAU food security, nutrition and livelihood/ research teams and government staff and civil society targeted for FSNAU capacity development activities

Education:

• University degree in English grammar and literature, linguistics, and related field

Work Experience:

• At least 3 years of experience in editing / revising reports / journal articles in English;

Languages:

• English & Somali

Grade: SC8
