OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
The Security Guard will conduct perimeter surveillance on a continual basis 24 hours per day. Ensure access control on all entry points to the camp. Update and inform the Programme Manager or his delegate Security Supervisor on security issues within the airport compound. Work involves identifying and investigating items reported by other sources, and performing other relates tasks.
GENERAL FUNCTION
· Patrol the camp to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
· Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.
· Monitor and authorize and register entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.
· Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
· Call police in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
· Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information during non-business hours.
· Warn persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehend or evict violators from premises, using force when necessary.
· Operate detecting devices to screen individuals and prevent passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas.
· Escort individuals to specify locations and to provide personal protection.
· Inspect and adjust security systems, equipment, and machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering.
· Monitor and adjust controls that regulate building systems, such as air conditioning, furnace, or boiler.
· Reporting to the Security Supervisor
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
· Minimum 2 years of experience in similar projects in post war zones
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with a wide variety of clients in a professional manner, displaying tact and diplomacy when needed
- Demonstrated ability to ensure the security and safety of a site and its clients
- Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision and complete all rounds and associated work during the shift
- Ability to control situations involving difficult and stressful incidents
- Basic understanding of Occupational Health and Safety and risks to people and property as applied to the working environment
Desirable
- Preferably with a military or police background, with proven reliability and maturity in emergency and/or conflict zones.
- Display maturity and common sense in relation to the adverse security environment that exists in South Central Somalia.
