With Programs in Somaliland, Punt land and South Central Somalia, our approach to is to design durable, sustainable and long lasting solution to problems affecting the communities we works with.
With funding from the United Nations Children Agency (UNICEF), SRDA is responding to the current drought in Somalia by implementing a 2 year’s Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) in Luuq district of Gedo region. The project is providing basic health and nutrition support to children under 5 and pregnant and lactating women from Luuq district through fixed and mobile OTP units who will be administrating severe and moderate malnutrition
Position Summary
Under the Leadership of the Director for Programs and with technical support of Nutrition Coordinator, the Senior Nutritionist (SN) is responsible for running and supervising nutrition activities at all stages of the project. He/she is also responsible for accomplishing the program objectives and outcomes within the contextual constraints in coordination and synergy. The Senior Nutritionist (SN) also has responsibilities regarding the capacity building of staff; humanitarian needs identification through needs assessments, monitoring of the evolving situation; context analysis to contribute to the development of future programs and internal coordination among the project team.

Main Responsibilities
o Plans, supervises and evaluates the nutrition component of the program to ensure the objective of the project is achieved
o Nutrition and breastfeeding counseling and education. Follow-up on referrals.
o Documentation of nutrition services.
o Supervises nutrition t staff in the completion of required activities within established timeframes.
o Ensures that nutrition staff have up-to-date knowledge and skills
o Conducting annual nutrition staff reviews (with the program director). 8. Plans staffing, participant service hours, participant flow, and staff roles and responsibilities to provide services
o Establishes schedules for follow-up nutrition education (individual and group).
o Plan, develop, review, monitors, and evaluates delivery of nutrition services; implementing new strategies to enhance services.
o Liaise with project stakeholders
o Works with the program director and project coordinator to develop outreach and referral networks, and provide training, as needed, to community based workers
o Working closely with the project team and/or other staff, support timely program reports on project activities in compliance with internal requirements.
o With the support of the project coordinator, support project implementation to ensure timely delivery of project activities (for example, monitoring against log frames, individual performance management work plans).
o Support field level technical assessments in coordination with the Nutrition response lead and other thematic areas and/or other external sector agencies, ensuring assessment findings are documented and that all assessments include a specific analysis of children's needs.
o Support the development, facilitation and scheduling of volunteer outreach activities.
o Work with the project team, Nurses, Breastfeeding Counsellors and Community Mobilizers in developing weekly and monthly work plans.
o Compile weekly/ monthly nutrition data/ reports and submit to Project Coordinator
o Track program progress using mutually agreed indicators, targets, and recommend remedial action to keep programs on course
o With support from the Monitoring & Evaluation team support the M & E plan implementation within the Nutrition projects, ensuring this links to reporting requirements.
o Work closely with partners and their staff to ensure project activities are implemented in time and within the stipulated quality.
o To ensure that the minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained in accordance with the Sphere Charter and Red Cross Code of Conduct.
Qualifications, Experience and Requirements:
o Bachelor Degree in Nutrition desirable. Five years of experience in the nutrition field with minimum 2 years working on applied nutrition issues including household level consumption, nutrition related behavior change etc;
o 3 years’ experience in program/team management;
o Experience in managing and building capacity of diverse teams and project stakeholders;
o Familiarity in working on Nutrition on emergency contexts;
o Familiarity with nutrition global cluster trends and recommendations;
o Strong written and oral communication skills in English, including report development, writing and editing;
o Somali language in an added advantage
o Demonstrated knowledge of UNICEF programming and experience managing nutrition and health programs compliant with donor such as USAID, DFID, ECHO, EC regulations will be an asset;
o Proven program leadership, management, project planning, organizational, interpersonal, communication, and security management skills;
o Experience in setting up M&E systems will be an asset;
