DIAL is a non-governmental organization that has grown from a small grass root organization to a vibrant organization over the past decade. The organization works in the Horn of Africa especially in Somalia implementing projects in Nutrition, Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Food Security and Conflict resolution.
With a clear commitment to the target communities, donors and other partners, DIAL is guided by strong regard for humanitarian operating standards and the passion to assist the neediest while always looking at ways to improve its projects.
Since inception, the organization has been carrying out various projects to address the humanitarian challenges faced by the local communities in South, Central and Puntland regions of Somalia. The organization has offices in various locations in Somalia and in Nairobi and receives funding from various donors. DIAL seeks to fill the position of Nutrition Supervisor for a new donor funded Integrated WASH, Health and Nutrition project in Kismayo, Lower Juba in Somalia.
Responsibilities
• Under the supervision of the Health and Nutrition Programs Coordinator, the Nutrition Supervisor will be part of the team implementing an integrated nutrition program in Kismayo.
• Ensure that the global objectives of nutrition and health are achieved in the specific program and through integration to the Nutrition and other DIAL programs in the area. The incumbent takes lead in active supervision of all the operations and activities of the Stabilization center (SC), TSFP and OTP programs and works closely with the health manager in regard to EPI activities and integration.
• The Nutrition Supervisor together with the Community Outreach Supervisor plans and ensures mass screening of beneficiaries is done at community level prior to the initiation of the program and regularly as the program continues. The Supervisor should identify and utilize all opportunities to ensure that case identification and coverage of the program is enhanced.
• Ensures screening activities are well done by the screeners for correct detection of cases, admissions, correct referrals and follow up of the beneficiaries.
• Ensures that registration of beneficiaries is correctly done.
• Supervises directly the Nutrition Nurses and offers support supervision both technically and in other program aspects to the Nutrition Nurses using IMAM guidelines and ensure they are adhered to by all nutrition teams.
• Support the Nutrition Nurses and the Nutrition Coordinator in the development of IEC materials related to nutrition for the health education.
• Ensure that accurate requests and records of food consumption are kept and the logistics office is advised of stock balances in a timely manner (to avoid stock-outs)
• Together with the Health Supervisor identify any training needs of staff and conduct field trainings and updates to strengthen staffs capacity.
• Including, but not limited to: Compiles weekly and monthly reports and ensuring timely submission of such written reports (in English) to the Health Supervisor and the Nutrition Coordinator. The Supervisor is responsible to coordinate the nutrition team to generate reports, scrutinize at field level before dissemination to the above mentioned.
• Work closely with the Nutrition Nurses, Health Supervisor and the Programs Coordinator to generate and compile the monthly narrative report.
• Under the responsibility of the Health Supervisor identifies key areas of improvement to the nutrition and IYCF activities to improve the programs.
• Any other duties as directed by Nutrition Coordinator or Programs Director.
Requirements
- Health/Nutrition practitioner with emergency nutrition experience.
- Able to work independently and in a team environment.
- Fluent in English; Fluency in Somali is a strong advantage.
- Experience in relief and development field is required. Experience in implementing and managing emergency nutrition programs
- Expertise in trainings and use of integrated management of acute malnutrition (IMAM) guidelines and SMART is required
- Ability to have a sound understanding of the Nutrition programs with vision of integrating different aspects.
- Computer proficiency in word processing, database, spread sheet and graphics presentations.
- Ability to work in a highly sensitive environment needed.
