INTRODUCTION
CARE is an International NGO working in Somalia. CARE and its partners work with vulnerable communities to address the underlying causes of poverty and promote peace and development, through its strategic goal to reduce poverty by empowering women, enhancing access to resources and services, and improving governance.
The DFID Funded Somali Girls Education Promotion (SOMGEP) project is part of the overall program of CARE Somalia focusing on vulnerable rural women. The Project ‐ Kobcinta Waxbarashada Gabdhaha in Somali – is a 4 years innovative project aimed at increasing access to education for some of the most educationally disadvantaged children: rural (sedentary and nomadic) girls. The project aims to improve access to education, learning outcomes, quality of education and retention of girls from some of the poorest, most vulnerable and marginalized households in remote and rural areas Somaliland, Puntland and Galmudug.
TASK
SOMGEP project is planning to conduct case studies on project intervention to assess project impact. This is part of documenting project learnings and success studies that is expected to feed into sustainability when project ends. The consultant will travel to the field and have dialogue with partial grant scholarship beneficiaries, Girls Empowerment Forum (GEF) members, school Community Education Committees (CEC), Non Formal Education (NFE) mothers, Female Mentors and Religious and Quranic teachers.
TIMEFRAME
From 15th August to 15th December 2016 for field trip, interface/dialogue with project beneficiaries inclusive of preparations and documentation
i. Interim deliverables:
· Detailed work plan, timelines, methodology and budget
· Outline of the case studies/human interest stories final documents
ii. Final Deliverables:
· Final documents and overall summary of the case studies, human interest stories etc.
· Accompanying visual (pictures/image/video) materials
· PowerPoint presentation and complete speaking notes that summarizes the final report
· Financial report
DESIRED COMPETENCIES
Ø Advanced university Degree in Social Sciences, Education, Community development or related field
Ø Strong organizational, research and analytical skills
Ø Ability to work independently, flexibly and under pressure, utilizing initiative and sound judgment
Ø Experience working in the horn of Africa, Somalia and Somali context
Ø Excellent written and spoken English
Ø Proficiency in Somali language is a requirement
