Somalia: Auxilliary Nurse

The Auxilliary Nurse will take up the following responsibilities:

  • Assist the Doctor and Nurses during consultations.
  • Conduct duties like dressing of wounds and helping the midwives during delivery.
  • Implement and evaluate individual treatment plans for patients with a known long-term condition.
  • Identify and manage as appropriate treatment plans for patients at risk of developing a long-term condition.
  • Prioritize health problem and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
  • Support patients to adopt health promotion IRC strategies that encourage patients to live healthily, and apply principles of self-care.
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion using opportunities such as new-patient medicals.
  • Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication on medication regimens, side effects and interactions.
  • Assess and care for patients presenting with uncomplicated wounds.
  • Support and advise women requesting information relating to family planning needs.
  • Support and manage health needs of women presenting for cervical cytology consultation.
  • Implement and participate in vaccination and immunization programmers for both adults and children.
  • Carry out additional duties as may be required.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma in provision of basic nursing services from a recognized institution. Relevant regular trainings from a credible health organization.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in health program set up.
  • Willing to travel and live in difficult and remote areas.

Required Competencies

  • A mature person of high professional discipline and moral integrity.
  • Knowledge of local Somali language
  • Previous experience within a humanitarian aid organization, in particular working in primary health care programs and conducting nursing.
  • Strong counselling skills.
  • Good Organizational skills.
  • Competent to work under stress as the situation may dictate.
  • Ability to work with displaced communities with diverse cultural and ethnic background.
