Position title: Fishing Gear Maintenance Training Facilitator

****Background:****
Fisheries play an important role in the Economy of Bossaso Community specially the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in enhancing food supply, generating employment, raising nutritional level and reducing poverty.
In order to increase fish production and productivity of Fisheries increase their safety, IOM will assist the fishery communities and increase their sea safety by providing them Fish gears maintaining skills so as equip them with knowledge and improve their safety in the sea during their normal work. Most of Bossaso IDPs and Vulnerable Families get their daily livelihood by fishing and most of them they didn’t get any training on how to be safe and maintain their necessary equipment’s during their work, this training will help them to understand more how to maintain their fish gears and survive if something go wrong in the sea.
The increasing unemployment rates in Somalia and Puntland has seen the increase in irregular Migration among the community. The project will mainly target the Youth and Women and will be an opportunity for the Bossaso fishery community to develop their business and improve their Livelihoods.
****Purpose:****
To provide Fish gears maintenance training to fisheries community and IDPs who their livelihoods depends on fishing.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
The Facilitator is expected to perform the following tasks under the supervision of the Migration Crisis Operations Unit (MCOPs) field staff and overall guidance of the Programme Manager.
Tasks to be performed:
- Provision of Fishing gears maintenance to the selected beneficiaries based in Bossaso.
- Train the beneficiaries how to maintain and the fishing nets and engines.
- Preparing training course and Curriculum for the trainees.
- Teaching the trainees the safety practice during fishing in the high sea.
- Provide advice to the trainees on the proper and necessary equipment’s to be carry during fish catching.
- Assist the trainees in enhancing their production capacity.
- Provide training on the boats repairing techniques and other fishing gears.
- Engage the beneficiaries in both the practical and theoretical training.
- Teaching the trainees the importance and how to use safety Jacket danger when facing troubles in the sea.
****Deliverables:****
- Provision of Fishing Gears Maintenance training to the selected members of the fishing community after the 20 days training
- Improve the fishing community’s skills and knowledge by training and providing them with fishing equipment
- Change the fishermen’s lifestyle in the sea safety by the end of the consultancy
- Submit a comprehensive report after the training period stating the training and equipment provided, challenges and recommendations
Remuneration
The facilitator will receive only $1000 (one thousand dollars only) after the completion all the duties mentioned above. The deadline for completion will be 20 days after the commencement.
Required Qualification and Experience:
- Diploma or Degree in engineering will be preferable, degree in Marine Resources
- Experience in the fishing industry
- Experience maintaining boat engines
- To have an experience in facilitating at least 3 similar trainings
- To have experience of maintaining Fishing gears equipment’s.

- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Fluent in written and spoken Somali an advantage
