The IRC has been working in Somalia since 2006, providing essential services to conflict and disaster affected communities. The IRC has been operational in Central Somalia (Mudug and Galgaduud), Mogadishu and Puntland regions implementing interventions in the areas of livelihood, WASH, GBV, Governance, protection and primary health reaching out to more than 250,000 conflict and drought affected Somalis.

SCOPE OF WORK:

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director Somalia Program, the Environmental Health & DRR Program Coordinator will lead and oversee the design, operation, maintenance and overall implementation of all aspects of quality water supply, environmental sanitation and hygiene promotion; informed by international trends for meeting millennium development goals, forestalling the effects of climate change and building community resilience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health or civil engineering.
  • Five years of professional experience managing both emergency and development programs in the areas of WASH and Disaster Risk Reduction and, at least two years experience in refugee and rural settings. Inclination to public-private Partnership (PPP) programming.
  • Excellent management and self-organization skills, including sector program human resource management, coaching and motivation.
  • Strong analytical skills to transform data and information into sound program design.
  • Excellent representation (with local communities, authorities and coordination systems) and negotiation communication skills, plus linkages with other sectors in a global program.
  • Excellent training and facilitation skills in building the capacity of staff, partners and target communities.
  • Ability to write clear and concise concept notes, proposals and reports
  • Strong skills and experience in design and implementation of M&E systems
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize work to meet tight deadlines.
  • The experience to move from emergency to rehabilitation and development preferred.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
